Future

The future looks good for Canada and Iceland links and cooperation. Trade is increasing between the 2 countries and they are still working on an agreement to make trade even more free between them. Even though they are on different continents there are many factors that favor free trade and improved trade. The world is getting smaller with more modern transportation and technology. This does not only improve traded it also provided alternatives for tourism. There is much to see in both countries and many people who have never been to the other country. Yes ancestry is important but not the only factor in deciding to travel to foreign countries.

Ancestry, Íslendingabók (The Book of the Icelanders) and the Book of Life (Ancestral Families in North America) are good examples of how technology is increasing the information that is available about people. These will continue to gather information and be open to the public to find out more information about their families and history.

Embassies have been established and activities such as the Artic Council have put positive forward direction in increased future relations between Canada and Iceland.

In October 2003 the Governor General of Canada visited Iceland and is planning on increasing awareness of the Arctic regions of which both Iceland and Canada are key players. Iceland is currently chairing the Arctic Council which was established in Ottawa Canada in 1996.
